![]() Veridis Quo is also a pun on the phrase “Very Disco”, an attribute not too unfitting to describe an album almost tailor-suited for the dance floor. Veridis Quo is a wordplay on the Latin Phrase Quo Vadis, meaning “Whither goest thou?”, as asked by Saint Peter to the risen Jesus on his way to re-crucifixion in Rome. The title of the track itself is a gorgeously folded mystery to begin with, wrapped in bright electric lights. Daft Punk, the celebrated French electronic music duo of Thomas Banghalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo was formed in 1993 that lasted until 2021, when they decided to split up, upsetting millions of fans “around the world” (cue Around the World by Daft Punk). But one thing I do know is that following my heart has never let me down.Veridis Quo, off Daft Punk’s second studio album Discovery, is to me the most sublime musical visualization of what an endless loop in a merry-go-round would feel like. I wish I had all the answers to my own questions. Ultimately aren't we all trying to figure out where we're going and why? Trying to make the ultimate "Discovery"….finding the truths that make us who we are and give our lives meaning. I constantly question the world around me question the impossible. That thinking about things outside the box and from new perspectives has true value. But for me it shows that meaning can be found where you least expect it. Only you can decide if this means anything to you at all. ![]() The point I'm trying to make in all of this is a personal one, one that makes sense to you as an individual. That they put their hearts and minds into the finest details of their artform, an ideal that can be seen in the way they approach their music and their lives. And in the case of the character Shep, the "Voyager", his journey lead him to revealing his truth of love for Stella.ĭaft Punk demonstrates that a story really can be told through sound and shows creative and clever "out of the box" thinking. In "Interstella" the characters go on a journey who's end leads them to the truth of the story's main plot. Now take the two Latin phrases, apply them both and in essence you find a deep relationship between their concepts and the film's storyline. But why make "Veridis Quo" the title of the book found in the animated film? Another wordplay of the title would be the Latin phrase "Veritas Quo" which means "Where truth is found." and in the film the characters find the truth inside of the book. Plus when you look at the title phonetically, it sounds like "very disco" (veridisquo) which is not only a great way of describing the rhythm and sound of the song and album, but reverse the two words, combine them, and you literally get the album's title, "Discovery". The greater meaning of the phrase being not only "Where are you going?" but also "To what end are you doing this?" which links back to the track on the album directly before it, "Voyager". ![]() Its simplest translation is: "Where are you going?". ![]() "Veridis Quo" is a bit of a clever wordplay on the Latin phrase "Quo vadis?". But Daft Punk is just as creative with words as they are with sound and I don't believe in coincidence. I mean that quite literally, as the phrase has no concrete definition or origin. At face value "Veridis Quo" is meaningless. Along with loving the song, I also love its name. Veridis Quo is track 11 on the album "Discovery" and is the title of the book in a scene in the album's animated adaptation "Interstella 5555". (I personally have never seen it done other than the example I'm giving.) Its almost always the exact opposite A film having a soundtrack not a soundtrack having a film. ![]() It's not often that you see a film derived from an album. It's a track on an album that in my opinion tells a story through sound from the time you press play, so much so that it was transformed into an animated film. "Veridis Quo" is one of my personal favorites. We all know that there is always a meaning to their music that goes beyond the realms of what we hear and feel when we listen to it. ![]()
